THREE ARMED ROBBERS NABBED
An intelligent unit of the Ghana Police Service has given the assurance that it would continue to take the security of the public and their property as its prime concern and advised the public to assist the police with information on criminals.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra,last wednesday, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP), Prosper Kwame Agblor, noted that car stealing had assumed alarming proportions and that new methods were being employed by criminals in car stealing.
To address the emerging crime, COP Agblor disclosed that the Police Administration had established an Auto Theft Unit within the CID and charged with the responsibility of ensuring the prevention of vehicle theft, recovery of stolen vehicles and the subsequent prosecution of offenders.
He said within the short period of its establishment, the Unit had chalked modest successes, the latest being the arrest of three suspects on July 14, this year at Tabuom in the Mamponteng district of the Ashanti region VW Touareg vehicle from a house at South Odorkor in Accra.
Ghana Police Service is also advising the general public to seek professional advice from the police in security matters relating to the erection of fence walls, security wiring and burglar p roof, among others.
Furthermore, the public is advised to ensure that all windows and entry points are properly secured before leaving their houses or retiring to bed and also ensure that vehicle keys are kept away in secured places.
