Nkrankwanta (B/A), July 17, GNA – Assembly Members in Dormaa-West District in Brong-Ahafo have expressed gratitude to President Mills and the government for creating the new district.

This was contained in a press statement endorsed by all the 14 members and copied to the GNA in Dormaa Ahenkro.

The statement said “we the undersigned Assembly Members of the newly-created Dormaa-West District with Nkrankwanta as its capital wish to express our profound gratitude to His Excellency Prof. J.E.A. Mills and the government for creating a new district for us”.

It said the creation was an opportunity for the area to be opened to the rest of the world and the hidden talents and values to be exploited for the speedy socio-economic development of the area.

The statement pledged the members' support and co-operation for all interventions meant to improve the people's standard of living.

Such interventions must be accorded due diligence to forestall any discrepancies in their implementation, the members added.

The statement indicated the Assembly would not relent in accepting and collaborating with local and foreign investors who could provide unemployment to help stem the drift of the youth to the urban centres for jobs.

The Assembly members identified revenue generation in the new district as a key challenge but gave the assurance that data would soon be collected on all taxable persons, goods and services, whilst stakeholders in revenue mobilization including traditional authorities would be tasked to enforce collection.

They appealed to the traditional authorities, religious and opinion leaders, the youth, small-scale entrepreneurs, as well as farmers in the area to work harder to assist the government and the Assembly to help improve the people's standard of living.
