Wa, July 17, GNA – Mr. Andrew Kistler, an American Peace Corp Volunteer, who allegedly stabbed a suspected armed robber killing him instantly during a scuffle with him at Dobile Junction at Wa, has been granted police enquiry bail.
The 22-year-old suspected armed robber, Eliasu Najat (a.k.a. Ninja), met his death when he allegedly attempted to rob two Peace Corps Volunteers last Saturday at about 1445 hours in Wa.
Najat in the company of a colleague attempted to rob Mr. Kistler and Ms. Rachel Ricciardi, who were on their way to their house at Dobile, a suburb of Wa.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofu Duku, Deputy Upper West Regional Police Commander, confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency in Wa.
He said that the deceased and his colleague approached the Peace Corpse Volunteers and ordered them to hand over their bags but the volunteers refused.
ASP Duku said the deceased pulled a knife and a struggle ensured between Mr. Kistler and the deceased, in which the volunteer sustained injuries on the back and finger.
The Regional Police Commander said sensing danger, Mr. Kistler also pulled a knife from his pocket and engaged the deceased in a fight, and subsequently he (volunteer) over powered him (Ninja) resulting in his death.
ACP Duku said the deceased's accomplice, who was also struggling with the female volunteer, took to his heels after the deceased was overpowered.
The body of the deceased had been deposited at the Upper West Regional Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
Inspector Richard Asamani, Wa Central Police Station Officer, said the Police were doing every thing possible to trace the family of Ninja.
