A twenty-year-old student of the University Practice Senior High School in Cape Coast, Lawrence Asamoah, has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a laptop and illegally possessing a pistol and ammunition..

Asamoah allegedly stole the laptop from a co-tenant and upon a search in his room, a locally made pistol, one AK.47 live ammunition, one BB live Ammunition and a pen knife were found.

According to the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Raymond Asaaba, on July 12, 2012, the complainant, Samuel Opoku who lives in the same house with Asamoah, left the house to see a friend off.

This was at a time when there was no other person at home, except Asamoah.

Mr Asaaba said, upon Opoku’s return, he realized that his room had been broken into and his Toshiba laptop computer and its accessories valued at GH¢910.00, had been stolen

The PRO said Asamoah was not at home at that time, so on his return Opoku confronted him and he denied knowledge of the theft.

Further investigations led to the suspect admitting to stealing the items and a search conducted in his room led to the discovery of the pistol and ammunition. Asamoah was consequently arrested.

Mr Asaaba said when questioned by the Regional Police Commander, Asamoah admitted ownership of the items.

Mr Asaaba said Asamoah is being charged for unlawful entry, stealing and possession of fire arm without lawful authority and will put before court while investigation continues.
