Please Send Me To Jail - Accused Pleads With Court
14.07.2012 LISTEN

There was laughter at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Circuit Court when a suspect begged the judge to send him to jail because he feared for his life if he was allowed to go home.

Mustapha Moro, 29, who was facing the charge of stealing, also told the court that he had become addicted to stealing and could therefore not change that habit overnight.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Moro was not disappointed when the presiding judge, Mr William Boampong, sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for theft.

According to him he was convinced some people who were apparently fed up with his stealing habit could kill him.

He said one of his colleagues was lynched by a mob and feared a similar fate could befall him if he was set free.

According to the prosecution, Moro, who confessed to be a drug addict, was arrested on July 4, 2012 for stealing mobile phones at the Kumasi Central Market.

On his arrest the police retrieved two of the mobile phones and SIM cards from him.

He was later identified by some of his victims.
