Kumasi, July 12, GNA – A 19-year old porter caught with 16 wraps of cocaine and heroin weighing 0.9415 grams has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Mohammed Issah was charged with possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and pleaded not guilty.
Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the convict was arrested by the police highway patrol team at Ejura in the Ejura-Sekyedumase District.
They were on routine patrol duty on July 5, last year, at about 0900 hours, when they saw Issah exchanging money with one Issahaku Amadu.
The police became suspicious and arrested the two. A body search uncovered the whitish substance in wraps and a smoking pipe on the convict.
Nothing incriminating was found on Amadu.
The substance proved to be cocaine and heroin when sent for examination at the forensic laboratory in Accra.
