Seven Ministers To Answer 23 Questions

Seven sector ministers are expected to appear before Parliament this week to answer a total of 23 questions which have been filed by a number of Members of Parliament (MPs).

They are the Minister of Energy, Dr Joseph Oteng-Adjei, the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr Alban S.K Bagbin, the Minister for Communications, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, and the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

The rest are the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Mike Hammah, the Minister of Tourism, Ms Akua Sena Dansua, and the Minister for Road and Highways, Mr Joe Gidisu.

Among the five questions Dr Oteng-Adjei is expected to answer when he appears before the House Tuesday, is the one that had been filed by the NPP MP for Sunyani West, Mr Ignatius Baffuor, who wants to know when farmers, whose farm produce were destroyed as a result of the clearing for the construction of the Bui—Sunyani high tension line, would receive their compensation.

The other four questions that had been filed by the NPP MP for Okere, Mr Dan Botwe, and the NPP MP for Asunafo North, Mr Robert Sarfo-Mensah, the NPP MP for Ahafo-Ano North, Mr Richard Akuoko Adiyia, and the NPP MP for Atwima-Mponua, Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, are all to inquire about when some communities in their constituencies would be provided with electricity.

On Wednesday when Mr Bagbin appears before the House, he is expected to answer six questions, including the one that had been posed by the NDC MP for Upper Manya, Mr Stephen Amoanor Kwao, about whether or not compensation was fully paid to those who offered lands for the construction of the Koforidua Water Project.

He is also expected to answer another question posed by the NPP MP for Binduri, Mr Stephen Yakubu, about what renovation works had been done at the Flagstaff House and how much, from 2009 to date.

The NPP MP for Oforikrom, Mrs Elizabeth Agyeman, is expected to ask Mr Bagbin about what was being done to complete the affordable houses which were now being occupied by squatters, while the NPP MP for Agona East, Mr John Agyaben, would also ask the minister about measures outlined for the enforcement of using 60 per cent of local materials in the housing industry by 2015.

The ministers for Local Government and Rural Development, Communications, Lands and Natural Resources and Tourism are expected to appear before the House on Thursday to answer a total of six questions.

On Friday, Mr Gidisu is expected to come to the House to answer a total of six questions on measures being taken to construct, rehabilitate or tar some road networks in some constituencies.

The House is also expected to approve a loan agreement between the government and Stanbic Bank (Ghana ) Limited for an amount of 15,800.00 Euros for the purchase of 200 ambulances for the national ambulance service.

The House will deal with the Public Health Bill, the University of Professional Studies Bill, the Internal Revenue (Amnesty) Bill, the Intestate Succession Bill and the Ghana AIDS Commission (Amendment) Bill which are at their various stages of passage.

The Business Committee has also proposed that the House should sit beyond the prescribed time of 2.00 pm when the need arises in the course of the week to enable it discharge the business it had programmed.
