Peki settlements must be under South-Dayi District-Deiga

Peki, (V/R), June 27, GNA-Togbe Kwadwo Dei XI, Deiga (Paramount) Chief of Peki Traditional Area, Tuesday called on the Government to place all Peki settlements and communities under the South-Dayi District Assembly for the sake of peace.

These settlements include those from Dededo to Kpetornu.

This was contained in a statement read on his behalf by his Adontehene, Togbe Ayim Mordey VI, Chief of Peki Avetile in protest against the ceding of communities from Kpetornu to Dededo to the newly created Ho-West District Assembly, formerly part of the Ho Municipal Assembly.

The statement, therefore, called on the Government to suspend the inauguration of the Ho-West District Assembly, which includes those settlements in order to maintain peace in the area.

The statement said: “Dededo was surreptitiously hacked from the then Kpando District and placed under the Ho West Municipal Assembly” when the South-Dayi District was created out of the Kpando District.

The statement said: “The Dededo Market toll is collected by the Ho Municipal Assembly while South-Dayi District Assembly gains nothing from Dededo in spite of the fact that Dededo used to be under the Kpando District” out of which South Dayi was carved.

The statement described the ceding of Peki settlements to Ho Municipal Assembly and now to the Ho-West District Assembly by Government as “extreme provocations.”

“This seems to suggest a re-demarcation of the boundary between Peki (Avetile) and Awudome (Tsito).”

The statement said the decision by the Government to put Peki settlements first under the Ho-Municipal Assembly instead of South-Dayi and now under Ho-West District Assembly amounted to ceding those settlements to “our opponents” who form part of those Districts.

The statement, therefore, called on the Government to maintain the status-quo pending the determination of the substantive land litigation between the Peki (Avetile) and Awudome (Tsito) by the High Court.
