ARREST NANA ADDO AND EX ATTORNEY GENERALS UNDER KUFFUOR

The Association of Former TEIN Executives (AFTEX) of the National Democratic Congress wishes to add its voice to the call made by the Coalition Against Corruption for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Nana Addo Danquah and other ex attorney generals and ministers justice under the Kuffuor administration who played leading roles in the rather bizarre circumstances which led the Construction Pioneers (CP) judgment debt saga.

Association of Former TEIN Executives (AFTEX) have studied and analyzed information pertaining to the CP case and have come to one irresistible conclusion that Nana Addo played a leading role which led to the illegal abrogation of the CP contract with government of Ghana and its attendance consequences. Nana Addo vengeance against the ruling NDC and projects initiated by the NDC knows no bounds which was manifested in his quest to put behind bars Mr Tsatsu Tsikata in his infamous Tsatsu Tsikata vrs the President writ and ill-informed judgment he exercised in the CP and other contracts awarded by the then NDC government. His conscious and mostly ill-informed advice given to the state as attorney general has led to huge liabilities on the good people of Ghana; AFTEX question the role of former AG's and Chief of Staffs in this and other cases during their 8 years in power.

It is interesting to note that, almost all the judgment debts which are making news in the country today are as a result of the illegal and reckless abrogation of contracts by the erstwhile NPP administration without recourse to the terms and conditions binding those contracts. Typical among them being the Waterville Holdings (BVI) Ltd and Construction Pioneers (CP). The latest one being the judgement debt of GHC130,000 (1.3 billion cedis) which against the state on the 28th May 2012 as a result of another reckless dismissal of then CEO of the Ghana National School Feeding Programme Coordinator (Dr Amoaku Tuffuor) by the NPP administration in April 2008.

We have also witnessed with much pain the attempts by the NPP and its youth groups like AFAG and Young Patriots to shift focus from the unfortunate conduct of its former ministers to patriots of the republic like Madam Betty Iddrisu and Dr Kwabena Duffuor, with a well hatched plan to velify the NDC government for partisan gains as we edge towards the 2012 general elections. It is even more unfortunate for a party that claims the drive for gender equality to take the lead in the public persecution of woman. One is left to wonder and question how this conduct against one of the few women in politics could encourage women participation in politics under their stewardship as their notoriety for persecuting and prosecuting is legendary (Nana Konadu and Sherry Ayittey trial).

AFTEX therefore wishes to serve notice to the NPP and its youth groups that enough of their parochial and empty occupation of the media; we are more than poised now to counter their empty accusations with incontestable facts. Enough of their threats and tactics of intimidation – we shall much them vigorously with facts and action.

We also wish to state that if the attorney general department fails to respond to the petition filed by the Coalition Against corruption, we shall marshal all efforts legally to bring pressure on government as well as give our unconditional support to the Coalition all the way to ensure that these former NPP functionaries and their colleagues are brought to book.

We also use this opportunity to commend government for coming out with measures with regards to the payment of judgement debts in the country. It our hope that, successive governments will adhere to the measures being put in place by this government.
