Kosmos Energy has restored two healthcare facilities in the Western region to improve healthcare delivery for the people of Axim and Ewoku in the Nzema East Municipality and its surrounding communities.

In November last year, Kosmos Energy pledged to rehabilitate the Chest Centre and the Community Health Centre.

It handed over the facilities to the Ghana Health Service after the Minister of Health, Alban Bagbin commissioned it.

They will now be re-opened to the public after several years of rehabilitation.

The former Chest Centre building will now be used as an Accident and Emergency Centre for the Axim Hospital with a new walkway and paved driveway linking the Centre to the main hospital to ensure easy access for patients and ambulance vehicles.

Kosmos undertook this project to improve access to critical medical resources in an emergency situation.

The Corporate Affairs Director at Kosmos Energy Ghana, George Sarpong said, 'Kosmos Energy prides itself in being able to lend a hand in the communities where we operate and also live. We do them because it is the right thing to do.'

The Vice President and Country Manager of Kosmos Energy Ghana, Mike Murphy said, 'The projects are a demonstration of our commitment to improving the communities and supporting government health care initiatives.'

He added that the company was working on several other projects in a comprehensive short- and long-term corporate social responsibility plan.

Alban Bagbin, Minister of Health, on his part, said 'The commissioning of these two projects is yet another commendable example of our on-going commitment to support and to partner with corporate Ghanaian entities such as Kosmos Energy.

Kosmos Energy is a leading independent oil and gas exploration and production company focused on frontier and emerging areas in Africa and South America.

The company's asset portfolio includes major discoveries and exploration prospects offshore Ghana, as well as exploration licenses with significant hydrocarbon potential offshore Mauritania, Morocco and Suriname and onshore Cameroon.
