POLITICAL PARTY YOUTH LEADERS EMBARK ON PEACE TOUR
The various political party youth leaders in the country have pledges their commitment in preaching and sustaining peace before, during and after the 2012 general elections.
The Inter-Party Youth Committee members will be visiting all flag bearers of political parties, chiefs, organizations and religious leaders to commit them in maintaining peace towards the December general elections and also to ensure that this year's elections would be violent free.
In a statement under the theme; "Sustaining Peace before, during and after election 2012-The Role of IPYC", released at a press conference in Accra last Tuesday, the four political parties youth leaders with representation in parliament gave their commitment to the preaching of peace in their campaign platforms.
The statement said youth leaders have pledged to uphold the peace that the country is enjoying and "appealed to their supporters nationwide to exercise maximum restraint in the heat of the electioneering campaign".
It said the committee has considered the reality that about 65% of voter population is youthful and that "it is important to reach out to them since they are the ones that are 'used' to foment trouble by senior politicians".
The chairman of the Inter-Party youth Committee, Mr. Ludwig Hlodze was concern about the use of social media especially, facebook to perpetuate political intolerance and plain insult in the eyes of the world.
He urged political parties to ensure that the security and survival of the people is paramount adding that "as young men and women of Ghana, we should be more concerned about the outcome of the December elections and work towards peaceful campaign before, during and after the elections".
He called on all Ghanaians to repose their confidence in the security agencies and the legal system to be able to keep peace that the country want in the upcoming elections.
The Inter - Party Youth Committee is a political organization involving the youth wing of the four main political parties with representation in parliament namely: NDC, NPP, PNC and CPP. It was sponsored by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiffung (FES) aim at reducing tension as a result of suspicion and verbal exchanges and attacks that characteritised political activity in the country.
