VODAFONE BUSINESS SOLUTIONS DONATES GHC 65,000 TO SUPPORT UEW GENDER SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

Accra, 20th June, 2012: Vodafone Business Solutions today donated a cheque of GHC 65,000.00 to support the Gender Scholarship Selection Scheme of the University of Education, Winneba. The scheme has been instituted by the University to give financial assistance to female students enrolled in the mathematics and science discipline as a way to redress the gender imbalance in this academic field.

Presenting the cheque to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akwasi Asabre-Ameyaw, Derek Appiah, Head of Vodafone Business Solutions said that “we want to commend the University of Education for this life-changing initiative. It is important that we encourage as many females into the technical and scientific field - diversity breeds creativity and we're very happy to be making a contribution to this change. Vodafone believes strongly in gender diversity and we hope the women who have taken the step of entering this male dominated field will continue to pursue careers in this field and make an impact with their contribution.

Professor Akwasi Asabre-Ameyaw lauded Vodafone Business Solutions for their financial support. “We cannot thank you enough for this support. It will certainly allow us to enroll more female students in the mathematics and science disciplines. We are very grateful for your benevolence”.
