Gone are the days when women were seemed to be confined to marriage, kitchen up-keeping and bringing up children have passed. Today, they say its women empowerment. “What a Man could do, a virtuous woman can also equally perform” consolation from some women.

Ghanaians in Germany precisely, Hamburg have effectively changed that old trend as they assembled last Sunday after various church services to have officially “introduced” Madam Vida Addae as a female aspiring MP to challenge the incumbent MP of Ejisu - Juabeng constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The occasion was climaxed by a fund-raising to cushion Madam Vida financially in pursuit of her onerous career.

The event took place at Waldorfer Strasse Nr. 30 – a popular gathering centre of African communities.

Unlike political differences normally characterized with such occasions, Hamburgers chose to hide their political affiliation to rally behind Auntie Vida to uplift high image of womanhood.

Those high profiled political figures in attendance were Madam Mary Porch Oduro - NPP Germany national organiser and her party gurus, Chris Mensah and Karim Abilla –NDC communication Directors were present.

Others were delegation from NDC Hamburg branch led by Joe Buckman, Roland Raji (aka Dr. Feel Good) and Mr. Anamoah Wallace. CPP, PPP as well as PNC supporters and sympathizers were there to show their solidarity.

Among the speakers were, Pastor Felix Boateng, Mr. Stephen Ampofo (Agna) Mr. Ohenenana Bonsu (Ayacsa), Anthony Abrebrese Rau, Nana Simpremo (Kobo), Sir Jordan, (a former chairman of CPP) in the Ashanti Region of Ghana & Mrs. Dr. Victoria Manu- all gave speeches, emphasizing on religious, tribal and political tolerances.

The sight of attraction of the whole show was when Madam Vida was invited to the podium to deliver her speech. With loud applause amidst people screaming on top of their voices, others stood on available platforms just to catch glimpse of Auntie Vida. “Yes, we give honour to whom honour is due” remarked by a bosom friend of Vida. Indeed, the aspirant NDC MP was given glamour welcome as if she has already won the impending race. Cheers were continuous for more than 15 minutes.

Before then, Ghana National Anthem was recited to boost morale and give more colours to the function.

In her usual humble approach, Auntie Vida-who doubles as immediate former Chairlady of NDC-Hamburg branch, waved to thank and expressed her appreciation for the gathering's heartfelt support and solidarity. “I shall not forget Hamburgers if I get to the parliament” she assured.

I do acknowledge and appreciate your kind efforts especially, your fervent prayer supports that have brought me to this present position, and therefore God being on my side, I shall get there”

“Though the race to the parliament would not be so easy but with your financial, moral and prayer support, I shall surely manoeuvre” she reiterated

Madam Vida Addae's utterances really encouraged a lot of women and men alike. People's appetite for politics and power enthusiasm were stirred.

“Even if it happens that, my opponent succeeds, I shall not discontinue my love and commitments in transforming the living standard of the Ejisu-Juabeng constituency. I am a grand-descendant of Nana Yaa Asantewaa of Ejisu and as far as Nana Yaa succeeded, I shall also succeed!!– Yes I Can” Madam Vida Addai encouraged herself.

She therefore used the occasion to explain certain government economic policies and urged her compatriots to exercise restrain as the government keeps tackling the high economic situation back home.

“She ended her speech as she made special appeal to the audience “my beloved Brothers and Sisters, social conditions of our communities back home are deplorable especially Ejisu-Juabeng constituency and would urgently need attention from all of us. Their places of convenience (sanitations), portable drinking water, educational facilities just to mention but few”. My humble appeal is that we need to bring life into our people. it is not only the matter of cash, it could be bicycles, sewing machines, anything in support of my pursuit in bringing a better living and change to the inhabitants of Ejisu-Juabeng constituency”.

Other outlined projects Madam Vida Addae intends to bring to the door-step of the ordinary are as follows: Grading of the roads to make for easy accessibility, creation of bus stops and streets identifications & eliminate schools under trees.

Chief Basil Umaru, a personal friend to Vida who represented the Nigerian community encouraged the gathering to tighten the Ghana –Nigeria relationship. The socio – economic success, peace and stability of the subcontinents, depend on us (the citizens).

The NDC Germany communication team also briefed and assured the gathering about the drastic security measures being adopted by NDC government to safe-guard lives and properties during upcoming December general elections. “Ghana is a star of democracy in Africa and international communities are counting on our efforts, maturity and experience”. the statement confirmed.
