Tema, June 14, GNA --- A school boy aged about 14 years, was on Thursday morning, knocked down and seriously injured by an Ashaiman-Tema bound Nissan Urvan commercial vehicle (tro-tro) at Tema Community One, near the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

The boy who is yet to be identified, was on his way to school in the company of another school boy when the accident occurred. He was immediately rushed to the Port Clinic for medical treatment.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) got to the accident scene at about 0950 hours, a crowd had gathered at the scene discussing the accident.

Blood was also seen on a big stone, and on the ground, while the vehicle was stuck in a near-by gutter.

Mr Dauda Ibrahim, an eyewitness told the GNA that at about 0930 hours, the two boys were walking on the shoulder of the road to school, when the vehicle, heading towards TMA from the TDC traffic light, approached the curve with top speed, skidded off the road some few meters from the curve, and knocked down the boy.

The eyewitness said but for a big stone which the boy's head hit, he would have fallen into the gutter, after the vehicle had dragged him on the ground.

Mr Ibrahim said the victim who sustained serious bruises on the face, head and other parts of the body, was immediately rushed to the Port Clinic by onlookers.

He said immediately after the accident, which caused heavy traffic on the TMA-TDC stretch of the road, the driver escaped from the scene.
