Major shops were burnt during the clash.

Commercial activities in the once brisk business township of Hohoe in the Volta region, have halted following violent clashes that hit the town early this week.

Adom Business Report has learned that big and small shops have closed down while various food sellers and petty traders are lost in the main trading hub of the volta region.

During clashes between Muslim youth and indigenes in the Hohoe municipality over the exhumation of the body of their chief Imam, major shops were burnt during the clashes.

According to correspondent of Hohoe-based Lornlornyo Fm, Isaac Kwesi Mintah, there is virtually no activity as majority of the residents are at home and traders from neighbouring towns who usually trooped the town for business, have suddenly suspended their trips.

The District Security Council (DISEC)imposed a twelve-hour curfew on the township beginning 6pm-6am as a result of the clashes between Muslim youth in the Zongo community and the traditional authorities and claimed the lives of two persons.

Although combined security forces from the Police and Military have calmed the community, many are still living in fear of any reprisal attack from the factions involved.

However, some banks in the town are said to be transacting business but under very tight security.

Banks including the Bank of Ghana, Agric Development Bank and Barclays Bank are operating normally but close earlier than their usual time in order for their staff to make it home before the curfew time.
