“To us , despite the momentary difficulties we have faced in the courts, this is gratifying and we hold the belief that considering the reputation of the GBA in Ghana’s democratic and constitutional history, as well as the association’s relevance of an activist bar in expanding the frontiers of constitutional democracy, that decision was a regretable one”, the statement said.

It said while the GBA had assumed a conclusive posture in its statement, arguing that the government was likely to incur judgement debt over contractural obligations to Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey, the two said such a situation would not arise if a review is declared in facvour of the plaintiffs in the matter.

The statement further querried whether the current leadership were cloaked with the mandate to give a verdict on the matter, as commentary on such cases in the past by one of its former Presidents, Nii Osa Mills, in reference to Mr Tsatsu Tsikata’s jail sentence in 2008, saw the latter being hounded out of office.

While thanking the masses for the support received since the commencement of the case in 2008, the statement further charged the GBA to be circumspect and principled in how and when it intervenes if the public were to heed their admonishment.
