Otoo Ellis assures KNUST's commitment to BA University

Fiapre (B/A), June 8,GNA – Professor Williams Otoo Ellis, Vice Chancellor, of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Thursday said the new University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) would be firmly supported by KNUST to produce quality human resources for national development.

The first students of the UENR, situated at Fiapre, near Sunyani will be admitted in September 2012.

Prof.Ellisgavetheassuranceatthesigningofa Memorandum of Agreement between the KNUST and the UENR to formally transfer the Fiapre campus of the Faculty of Forest Resources Technology of the KNUST to the UENR at Fiapre.

HesaidtheestablishmentoftheUENRwassignificant becausetheuniversitywouldnotonlychurnout excellence products but would also change the face of the region.

Prof. Ellis emphasised that the KNUST already had the track record of facilitating such initiatives or processes, citing that it was the collaborative support of the KNUST that led to the smooth take-off of the University of Mines and Technology at Tarkwa.

“We are ready to share our 60 years experiences with the UENR”; he pledged and commended all those who worked hard towards the smooth take-off of the university.

Prof. Esi Awuah, Vice Chancellor of the UENR, observed that the University had been established at an opportune timeconsideringthemoderntrendofInformation Communication and Technology.

She commended the Government for such foresight and advised students especially those in the region to learn hard in order to qualify for further studies at the University.

Mr.KwadwoNyamekye-Marfo,Brong-AhafoRegional Minister, emphasised that the Government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in the position to fulfill promises made during the 2008 electioneering campaign.

All these campaign promises, he said would be a reality if GhanaiansrenewthemandateoftheNDCinthe upcoming general election.

Mr.Nyamekye-Marfoexpressedappreciationtothe KNUST for the use of its campus to start the UENR last year.
