Turkish and Czech Ambassadors call on Information Minister

Accra, June 8, GNA - Turkey and Ghana has initiated an exchange programme for Turkish students to study and learn more about Ghana and Africa.

Mr Aydin Nurihan, Turkish Ambassador to Ghana announced this during a courtesy call on Mr Fritz Baffour, Minister of Information in Accra on Friday.

He said a high powered delegation made up of Turkish Education Authorities was expected in Ghana on June 25, to hold discussions with their counterparts at the University of Ghana.

Mr Nurihan said there were no Turkish students in Ghana, rather there were many Ghanaian students in Turkey, stressing that his priority was education, especially for the grassroot.

He noted that Turkish citizens spent money on their children's education just like it was being done in Ghana, adding that, education needed to be given a priority in every nation's agenda.

Mr Nurihan described Ghana as a beautiful tropical country in Africa which had a lot to offer to the world, saying, “Ghana is a beacon with a wonderful future”.

"Ghana does not need any lesson to learn but advice and experience to share and move on with her development efforts,” he added.

Mr Nurihan said Turkey over the years had been associated and related more with East Africa and now prepared to learn more about West Africa through Ghana, adding, "Turkey has currently entered into various agreements with Ghana that would lead to huge investments in the country".

Mr Baffour stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries which dated back to the 19th Century.

He said the Government was working hard to raise standards and conditions of Ghanaians, saying, “We are right on course with our Better Ghana Agenda”.

Mr Baffour stressed that Ghana needed the right advice from countries like Turkey to help her move from a developing nation through middle income to a developed country.

Mr Miloslav Machalek, Czech Republic Ambassador to Ghana who later called on the Sector Minister, expressed his country's efforts at strengthening economic ties with Ghana.

He said his country was exploring various areas including the energy and road sectors, which were some of its priority areas in Ghana.

Mr Baffour said Czech and Ghana had lots of experiences to share, stressing the need to strengthen the ties between them.
