Tema Police Command arrests impersonator

Tema, June 7, GNA --- A 32-year-old driver who posed as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of the Prampram District to defraud unsuspecting people is in the grips of the Tema Police.

Emmanuel Korankye Nyame, a native of Ekumfi in the Central Region, is a resident of Ashaiman.

Corporal Joseph Barabu, Acting Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that a victim, who is a student of Ada Secondary Technical School approached Nyame to assist him look for a job.

According to Corporal Barabu, Nyame received an amount of GHC400 from the victim on May 29 this year, after he convinced the victim that he could get him enlisted in the Ghana Police Service.

In addition to the money, the suspect collected copies of the victim's school certificate.

The Ag PRO indicated that a report was lodged by the victim at the Tema Regional Police Command, after Nyame failed to fulfill his promise of getting him enlisted in the Service.

He said Nyame was apprehended on June 1 at Ashaiman and arraigned before the Ashaiman Circuit Court presided over by Mr Yaw Tsatsu on Wednesday.

The suspect who pleaded not guilty to two counts of “pretending to be a public officer, and defrauding by false pretence” was remanded into police custody to re-appear in court on

June 7.
The Ag PRO advised the public to use the right channel to get enlisted in any of the security services.

He also called on the public not to hesitate in reporting criminal activities to the Police.
