Suhum (E/R), June 7, GNA – Six people from Agomeda in the Greater Accra Region, were arrested at Abenabo near Suhum in the Eastern Region for allegedly possessing arms and ammunitions intended to cause confusion in their hometown.
The suspects, were arrested in April by the Panthers Unit of the Ghana Police Service who upon a tip-off.
The police personnel rushed to Abenabo and rounded up a white mini bus with Mr Kofi Addai alias 'Kofi Soldier' as the driver and five passengers.
When the police conducted a search on the bus, it retrieved a pistol from Kofi Soldier and some items concealed in a bag.
A police source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the items contained arms and ammunition, but refused to disclose the quantity.
He claimed that the suspects, who had since been granted police enquiry bail, were sending the items to Agomeda to fuel a chieftaincy dispute.
Apostle Solomon Madji, Chairman of Agomeda, Mla-Hiomeh Concerned Citizens, told the GNA that innocent and vulnerable people of Agomeda received the message of the arrest with joy, but it was short-lived when they heard that the culprits have been freed.
He alleged that what made matters worse was that the culprits went round the town threatening people.
