NDC runs away from Amidu challenge

Forty eight hours after Martin Amidu, former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, threatened to expose more malfeasance in the Mills-Mahama led National Democratic Congress government, if they pushed him to the wall, President Mills and his functionaries have not found the courage to dare the anti-corruption crusader.
To many people, this comes as a confirmation of the claims that President Mills is presiding over a lot of 'gargantuan crimes' against the nation.
Mr Amidu's challenge was a reaction to the sustained agenda by functionaries of the Mills-Mahama government to tarnish his image for casting the government in bad light with his explosive revelations about the attempts to conceal 'gargantuan crimes' against the nation.
“Members of the NDC communication team have, since I exited government, tried to create the impression that I am a bitter and aggrieved person [and] that is why I am advocating probity and accountability and transparency in government,” he stated.
The former A-G was relieved of his post when the Chief of Staff, Henry Martey Newman, in a press release, claimed he had misconducted himself at a meeting with President Mills.
He has described the claim as false, together with other claims that he had failed to name the culprits in the Woyome scandal, and had also begged the president not to sack him from his government.
Mr Amidu explained that he had planned to resign from the Mills-Mahama administration because President Mills was interfering in his work as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
He accused the Mills-Mahama government of trying to cover-up the GHC52m Woyome scandal in which he insists some officials in his administration are implicated.
According to him, he had sent names of some NDC officials he believed were part of the agenda to conceal this “gargantuan crime” or might have benefited from it.
This revelation from Mr Amidu, contained in his latest release to the media, sharply contradicts an earlier claim by President Mills that he was not privy to the any information about the GHc52m dole-out to his party's bankroller, Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
According to Mr Amidu's statement, President Mills fed Ghanaians with lies when he denied knowledge of the judgement debt paid to Woyome, stressing that Ghanaians... “had been fed false and 'spin' information from the Castle.”
The former A-G accused the Mills-Mahama led administration of not being supportive of efforts at retrieving the money that had been fraudulently paid to Mr Woyome.
“I was in Court in person and the statement of case, together with the accompanying application and my single-minded determination to retrieve the gargantuan GH¢51million for the Republic of Ghana is now known to all,” he said in the statement.
But according to him, elements within the Mills-Mahama administration started putting pressure on President Mills in order to stall the process, which President Mills succumbed to.
