Wa, May 28, GNA – Mr. Moses Dramani Luri, Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE), has appealed to Student Unions, particularly those of tertiary institutions, to campaign for peace in Election 2012.
He said the Government, Electoral Commission; the National Commission for Civic Education, civil society arganisations and the media alone could not ensure free, fair and peaceful elections without the support of the people.
Mr. Luri made the call at the Annual General Meeting of the Wa Polytechnic Chapter of the Sissala Students' Union, in Wa at the weekend.
Speaking on the theme: “Violence free election 2012: The role of the Sissala Student,” the DCE commended the students for discussing the role they could play to make the December polls peaceful.
He appealed to students to educate people on politics and the electoral process, to help them to avoid multiple registrations and voting, use of intemperate language, voter intimidation and vote buying among others.
Mr. Ishmael Madah, a former DCE of the District, said party politics was about advocating best development ideas that could help reduce poverty and change the living standards of the people, and not about inciting people to take up arms against each other.
