The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has stepped up security at the house officers flats following the death of a twenty-seven-year-old junior doctor at the hospital under mysterious circumstances.

Desmond Kabah, was found naked and dead in his room, number 42 of the third floor of Block N, which accommodates house officers at about 7pm Sunday.

The police have commenced investigations into the incident and do not have any lead as of now. No arrests have been made.

Blood stains were found in his left armpit, scrotum, bruises on the left leg and blood oozing from the nostrils.

The deceased’s bed sheet was also soaked with blood.

He has been identified as the son of Mr Leo Kabah, Member of Parliament for Chiana Paga in the Upper East Region.

The incident has thrown the hospital’s staff into a state of shock and raised security concerns about their safety as some nurses have been recently attacked on the hospital premises after close of work.

But Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Mustapha Salifu has said there was no cause for alarm as the security at the hospital had been stepped up.

Mr Salifu told Graphic.com.gh that, the deceased was scheduled for duty last Friday but when he failed to report, his team members tried reaching him on telephone but were not successful.

They however discovered his lifeless body in his room on Sunday night when they went there to check on him.

Mr Salifu said the deceased was among the team of doctors who were recently inducted to commence their housemanship in medicine.

He said there was no loss of property in the deceased’s room as his car keys, Ipad and cell phone were all found in the room.

In an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, a radio station, father of the deceased, Mr Leo Kabah said he was still in shock and was dumbfounded when he heard of the incident.

He described his son as a “peaceful, very quite and soft person”.

The police have commenced investigations into the incident and have taken statements from the deceased’s neighbours, team members and father.

According to the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Freeman Tettey, there were no visible cuts on any part of his body.

He said the police did not also find any knife close-by.

“It is extremely difficult to say if it was murder or suicide unless a post-mortem is conducted alongside police investigations”, he said.

Mr Tettey said two friends (names withheld) of the deceased allegedly entered his room only to find him naked on his bed and suspected him to be dead.

He explained that the two friends claimed that they had not heard or seen him hence the decision to go to the late doctor’s room to find out if he was in there.

According to him, the two friends said although the door to the room was closed, it was not locked.

Mr Tettey said when the police entered the room after it was reported, they found the key to the room on a table and found the room very disorganised with items scattered all over.
