Hunchback Killed For Rituals

Mohammed Amidu (2nd L) in the grip of hte policeA 31-year-old driver, Mohammed Amidu, who allegedly murdered a hunchback, reportedly for ritual purposes, has been arrested by the Akwatia Police.

Amidu, a Burkinabe, was alleged to have killed the woman, Madam Grace Akomaning , a 48-year-old trader at Akweteman in Accra, and dumped the body in the bush between Otwe Nkwanta and Akwadum on the Asamankese main road, after removing the hunch and draining the blood from it.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akwatia Tuesday, the Akwatia District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr Samuel Odame, said Amidu, who needed a hunchback for his rituals, intentionally befriended Grace in Accra in order to attain his goal.

He said on May 27, 2011, Amidu asked Grace to accompany him to Boadua to introduce her to his parents and she consented.

According to Mr Odame, Amidu murdered the woman on the way, removed the hunch, drained the blood from it and dumped the body in the bush.

He said people in the area reported the murder to the Akwatia Police, but try as they did, the police could not find the perpetrator.

Mr Odame said on September 11, 2011, the police had a tip-off that Amidu, who had allegedly killed the woman, had taken refuge at Suhum.

He said the police managed to arrest Amidu, after which he confessed to murdering Madam Akomaning for ritual purposes.

Amidu claimed that someone had promised to make him rich overnight if he (Amidu) could produce the flesh and blood of a hunchback for rituals.

Meanwhile, Amidu has been remanded in prison custody by the Asamankese Circuit Court to reappear on October 26, 2011.
