The Ghana Police Service says it has started investigations into an allegation that Police Instructors are extorting money from their recruits who are due to pass out at the Police Training School in Kumasi.

The recruits alleged that three of the 12 drill instructors at the school had since January this year been collecting 10 Ghana cedis from each of the 232 recruits every month.

In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Service said although the instructors have denied the allegation anyone found culpable will be dealt with.

He said “in fact I have personally called one of the instructors at the school and they have denied any such allegation, the recruit also denied the allegations.

“It's unbecoming for police officers to take money from recruits on training. Also if such an allegation has come up and there is any truth found in the allegation, perpetrators would duly be brought to book. We're only going to do our investigation around the allegation so there is no cause for alarm.”
