Kintampo, Aug 23, GNA- Some chiefs, elders and opinion leaders of Kintampo in Brong-Ahafo have petitioned the government to adhere to the two traditional divisions to carve the proposed new district out of Kintampo District.

The two divisions are Nkoranza Traditional Authority with Kintampo as headquarters and Mo Traditional Authority, which has New Longoro as the district capital.

The petition, dated August 8, said the petitioners embraced the decision for two separate districts in the area.

The petitioners accused some government officials "of attempting to unilaterally divide the district to suit their whims and caprices without regard to the peace and interest of the people."

The petition recalled that Kintampo District was created in 1986 through the fusion of two local authorities, namely the Kintampo Local Council with its headquarters at Kintampo and the Mo Local Council. The chiefs and people of the area asked the government to heed their genuine concern "as the best to solve the demarcation problem in the area".

Meanwhile, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, Electoral Commissioner, on Wednesday met the chiefs and other stakeholders at the Kintampo District Assembly Hall on the government's proposal for creation of the two districts.

As part of the government's proposal, Jema would be the headquarters for Kintampo South while the headquarters for Kintampo North would be Kintampo.
