Electoral Commission must tread carefully - Adwoa Safo

The New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Dome/ Kwabenya, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo, has called on the Electoral Commission to carefully gauge critical areas where it faced technical challenges in the biometric voters registration exercise and include them in the intended mop-up exercise.

That, she said, would ensure that every Ghanaian who had attained the voting age and, therefore, qualified to vote was not disenfranchised.

She said even though the entire exercise had been substantially successful, a lot of people had not registered as a result of some technical challenges that marred it.

“I believe the technical ineptitude on the part of the EC must not disenfranchise any legitimate voters and hence the need to expand the mop-up exercise to cater for the lot that have not registered”, she said

Ms Safo was addressing polling station officers and agents who manned the various registration centres during the national biometric registration exercise to show her appreciation for their commitment and hard work they showed during the 40-day period.

“The party and I are indebted to you for the great deal of commitment and zeal that you demonstrated and by dint of your hard work we made a significant improvement by hitting 125,439 as against the under 100,000 we recorded over the last registration. This speaks volumes of your unflinching support and commitment you showed during the exercise.” she said.

Ms Safo also commended them for their display of high level commitment and hoped that similar commitment would be made on the day of the elections.

“Ghana cannot continue to entrust its destiny into the hands of NDC”, she said and asked them to do a critical study of the country under the current government and resolve to vote NDC out of power.

She said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had been ordained to take over the reins of Ghana and repair what she referred to as the economic havoc created by the NDC and develop it to a height that will lessen the burden of all Ghanaians.

Ms Safo added that the transformational leadership which would propel Ghana’s economy from the agrarian type to that of an industrialised economy, had young people such as Dr Bawumiah and others to work hard to transform the economy.
