GETFund finances projects for two institutions

The GETFund is financing the construction of five major infrastructural projects at two educational institutions at Abetifi and Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District in the Eastern Region.

The two institutions are the Abetifi Presbyterian College of Education and the St. Peter’s Senior High School.

The projects are the construction of a three-storey block of flats for eight teachers at the Abetifi Presbyterian College of Education and a 200 and 150-bed capacity three-storey hostels for male and female students at the college.

The GH¢ 1.1 million block of flats and the male students’ hostel have been awarded to M-Business Company Limited while the female hostel project is being executed by Fadmo Construction Limited.

The male hostel is estimated to cost GH¢ 1.8 million while the female hostel is being constructed at the cost of GH¢ 1.5 million.

The fund is also rehabilitating an old mechanised borehole to provide potable water to students and staff of the college.

At the St Peter’s Senior High School at Abetifi, the fund is also financing the construction of two separate two-storey dormitory blocks which have been awarded to the Freedom Builders and the Jilcon Company Limited.

These were made known when the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Victor Smith, in the company of the District Chief Executive for Kwahu East, Mr Samuel Asamoah, and some regional heads of departments from the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) visited the two educational institutions. Other members of the team included officials of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Department of Feeder Roads and the Ghana Highway Authority .

At the Presbyterian College of Education, the Principal, Rev D. K. Bosea-Gyinantwi, said the college was confronted with an acute accommodation problem, adding that the situation had compelled most of the teachers to rent expensive apartments at Abetifi.

“The presence of the Presbyterian University College at Abetifi has made renting of apartments so expensive”, he explained, but was optimistic that upon completion of the teachers flat, things would change for the better.

He commended the GETFund for funding projects at the institution.

The principal, however, appealed to the government to construct access roads to the college.

At the St Peter’s SHS, the Headmaster, Mr Matthias Kudiabor, expressed worry over the slow pace of work on one of the two dormitories.

“If we had our own way, we will sack the contractor”, he said, and commended the Freedom Builders Company for working on its project ahead of schedule.
