The Bank of Africa – Ghana (BOA-Ghana) has joined the family of commercial banks on the eTranzact network, Africa’s first online electronic payment platform.

The move allows customers of BOA-Ghana to use their automated teller machine (ATM) cards at any ATM terminal of the eTranzact member banks in the country, including Zenith Bank, Access Bank, UBA and Energy Bank.

A statement issued in Accra by the Corporate Communications Team of the bank said “Bank of Africa’s customers can now have access to 93 eTranzact ATMs spread in all regions of the country”.

“This is welcome opportunity for BOA’s continued ability to delight its customers”, it quoted senior executives of the bank as saying.

The statement said BOA-Ghana believed that membership of the eTranzact network would help the bank live up to its corporate slogan; “As strong as Group, as a close as partner”.

The statement quoted the Operations Team at eTranzact as saying “eTranzact offers Ghanaians electronic payment services with experience accumulated from over eight years of operations in seven different countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East”.

It said ATMs had become a common feature in Ghana’s banking landscape with penetration (per 100,000 adults) recorded at 4.16 in 2009, according to a World Bank report published in 2010.

The statement said the ratio had significantly improved since then with ATMs becoming a major service enhancement tool in Ghana’s banking sector.
