TSVANGIRAYI; STILL THE MAN!

“When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask him, 'are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?”Mathew 11vs 2-3.

And so according to the scriptures, John the Baptist after being incarcerated by the tyrannical Herodiac regime, expected Christ to at least pay a courtesy call to his newly found home. When this apparently failed, the good Baptist could not help it but to inquire from Jesus himself whether he was the type of the messiah they had waited for. Or perhaps they were to wait for yet another deliverer.

What prompted John to make inquiries was not his unbelief, because he was actually the one who had introduced Jesus to the world, as the lamb that takes away the sins of the world-, but rather the unbearable torturous pain he suffered at the hands of the evil Herod.

Likewise, when people start wondering if the MDC is the change they wish to see in the homeland, I am tempted just like John to humbly inquire of Morgan Tsvangirayi; "are you the one who was to come.....?"

It has been more than thirty years since shrugging off the colonial yoke and three years since the GPA was born. But, despite this "noble" past, Zimbabweans are still swimming in abject poverty.

Most had given the GPA a rapturous hero welcome as they anticipated it to be their boarding pass to the Zimbabwe they want. And now more than three years down the line, most are still pavements and benches of the dominant elite.

Worse still the MDC which most had hoped would usher in a new era of political tolerance; economic stability, seems to have lost the way in the plush and slushy aristocratic mist.

Again, just like what Christ instructed John's disciples to go and tell their master the marvelous and wondrous work he was engaged in. I challenge those skeptics and infidels who do not believe in Morgan to spare a thought for the “blind that receive sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear and the dead are raised.”

This might sound strange, especially when Minister Biti has splashed more than US$ 20 million on luxury vehicles for ministers, at a time civil servants have stopped complaining of their poor remunerations. It does not make sense when the minister for public service is Lucia Matibenga. More so, at a time when Solomon Madzore and many others have spent months behind bars signalling the collapse of our judicial service, when Theresa Makone is a co minister of Home Affairs.

Sense is only understood when one acknowledges. MDC's hands are tied at the back, despite enjoying parliamentary majority. ZANU PF has been an unwilling partner in the GNU. The declaration of commitment engraved in article 2 of the September 15 2008 signed GPA, remains an unfulfilled promise. How one does explains the numerous postponements of cabinet meetings due to President Mugabe's absence when Tsvangirayi the deputy chair is around?

This is only manifestation of commitment without willingness- if there is anything like that!

What the MDC has achieved for the past few years of the GNU should be praised. At least our shops are no longer empty, endless bread queues are unholy things of the past. Salaries, especially those of civil servants are still poor, but at least they are making a living.

What the MDC is fighting to harness is a horrendously bled economy, mercilessly sucked by its not so benevolent rulers, pleased only at fattening their bulging pockets. The harsh political climate of extreme polarity we live under is now more of a way of life for most. It will take time to be redressed!
