Cape Coast, May 22, GNA – A Cape Coast Circuit Court judge Mrs Florence Kai Otu on Tuesday tasked the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) to check drivers who park abruptly in the middle of roads to pick passengers and cause traffic.
She said they should also ensure that drivers do not park along single lane roads which are many in the Cape Coast Township to help prevent the unnecessary traffic jam and avoidable accidents in those areas.
The judge said her observation was that drivers in the town had developed that bad habit of parking along the opposite side of single lane roads creating inconveniences for other road users which sometimes resulted in accidents
Mrs Otu said this when she passed sentence in a motor case involving a commercial driver who crushed his vehicle into another when he tried to swerve some parked vehicles on both sides of a single lane.
The driver, Stephen Mensah, 39, was fined GH¢1,200.00 after he had pleaded guilty to careless and inconsiderate driving.
The prosecutor Chief Inspector Samuel Obeng Addo told the court that on January 27 this year at about 1700 hours, Mensah crashed his Nissan Almera taxi whilst driving from Nkanfoa to Tantri a suburb of Cape Coast into another vehicle.
He explained that when Mensah got to a portion of the road near the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office, he run into a Nissan Premera parked on the side of the road as he tried to swerve some commercial vehicles parked along the road.
He said both vehicles got damaged but none of the occupants got injured.
