Miss World confers with Benyiwa Doe
Miss World, Ivian Sacros, and her entourage, on Sunday, paid a courtesy on the Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa Doe, at her residence in Cape Coast to inform her about their trip to the Kakum National Park, Cape Coast and Elmina Castle as part of her official visit to Ghana.
The Central Regional Coordinating Council Director, Mr. Kwame Oppong, who welcomed the entourage, introduced Benyiwa Doe and some queenmothers to Ivian Sacros and her delegation.
Speaking at the short visit, Ivian Sacros said they were in Ghana to assist Ghana's World Beauty contestant with a purpose to implement her project of establishing a school for the street children at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra, and that this was her first visit to Ghana.
The Chairperson of the World Beauty Pageant, Julia Morley, said her association was in the country to help Stephane Karikari build a better future for the children.
She said beauty was not about facial beauty, but about using the knowledge one has acquired to help the underprivileged in society.
A member of the World Beauty Pageant, Chief Mandela, a grandson of Nelson Mandela, said the organisation was in Ghana to assist Karikari build a strong educational foundation for the underprivileged children in Ghana.
He said education was the weapon that one could use to make a change in society, and thanked the Minister for opening her doors to them.
Beauty with a purpose pageant Stephane Karikari said her project would cost GH¢74,000, which involves constructing a pre-school facility for the children.
Responding to her guests, Benyiwa Doe said it was a privilege for the chiefs and the people of Central Region to receive them.
She said Cape Coast was the first capital of Ghana, but was removed to Accra in 1877. She added that the region had many edifices that portrayed the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, adding that they would learn more about that trade when they visit the castles.
She then contributed GH¢10,000 to Karikari's project.
Among Miss World's entourage were Miss Europe from Britain and Miss Caribbean from Puerto Rico.
Nana Ama Amissah, Queenmother of the Mankessim Traditional area, was also present at the occasion.
