Komenda Sugar Factory to be Revamped soon

Komenda (C/R), May 21, GNA - India and the Ghana Government have reached an agreement to reactivate the Komenda Sugar Factory soon, after three years of negotiations initiated by Dr. Joseph Samuel Annan, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.

Consequently, a four-member Indian sugarcane and sugar production experts were on Saturday, introduced to the Komenda community at a short durbar at Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality.

The experts led by Mr Shashank Shapre presented a video on sugarcane plantation and production to sensitize community leaders and stakeholders in the community about prospects of contemporary sugar industry.

India is one of the world's leaders in the industry and the presentation was aimed at giving the community an insight into the industry to whip their interest on the reactivation of the proposed sugar plantation and processing project in the area.

Mr Nintin Wagn, a Mechanical Engineer of the Indian team, said the project would provide direct employment for 400 people whilst over 2,000 farmers will also benefit.

The Komenda Sugar Factory collapsed in 1983.
