GNA Northern Regional Manager buried on Saturday
Tamale, May, 19, GNA - The mortal remains of Mr Salifu Amankwa Mumuni, 52, Ghana News Agency (GNA) Northern Regional Manager, were laid to rest at the Tamale Public cemetery on Saturday.
He passed away at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on May 12, 2012, after a short illness.
Speaking at the burial service, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister, said the late Mumuni was duty conscious, meticulous, respectful, humble and intelligent.
The Regional Minister said the death of Mumuni, who was affectionately called, “Honorable” by the members of the media fraternity in the region, was a big blow to journalists in the area and the nation as a whole.
Mr Mabengba said: “The death of Amankwah has created a vacuum and it will take a long time for such a space to be filled, especially, as a boss, who devoted his time to duty just like a newly employed person”.
The official residence of the late Mumuni was swarmed by mourners clad in black and red bands from all walks of life, including journalists, officials of various agencies and the Regional Coordinating Council, led by the Minister, joined the bereaved family to pay their last respect to the deceased.
Other dignitaries at the burial were District Chief Executives, heads of department and GNA representatives, including those from Upper East and Upper West Region, who joined their colleagues in the Northern Region to mourn with the family of the late Mumuni.
In a sermon, Pastor David Ayilude, Resident Pastor of the Winners Chapel International, cautioned people against futile trust in worldly possessions.
He said such possessions could not buy forgiveness of sins, and called for humility and respect for one another, since God had plans for human beings, and stressed that pride could not yield any desired results.
Pastor Ayilude called on humankind to ponder over the inevitability and universality of death, and said worldly possessions had no eternal value and were contrasting destinations of humans.
He asked the mourners to be devoted to God since there was no condemnation for those who would put trust in Jesus Christ.
Pastor Ayilude said: “What humanbeings cannot do, God does it for the faithful”; but the unfaithful have no hope beyond their graves, their graves are their homes forever. Do whatever it takes to place your investment where it really counts”.
The late Mumuni, who left behind a wife and a child, attended Daboya Primary School, Kanton Secondary School in Tumu, and completed his Secondary education in 1981.
He attended the Tamale Secondary School from 1981 to 1983 for his Advanced Level Certificate course, the Ghana Institute of Journalism from 1987 to 1989 and graduated with a Diploma Certificate in Journalism.
The late Mimini started working as a journalist at the Wa office of the GNA from 1981 to 1991, and by the dint of hard work and dedication, he rose through the ranks to become the Northern Regional Manager of Agency, a position he held until his untimely death.
