Accra, May 18, GNA.- Mr James King Azortibah, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament aspirant for Walewale constituency in the West Mamprusi District, has appealed to government to consider as a matter of national interest the supply of tractors to farmers for intensive mechanized farming in the North.
He said the northern sector being the food basket for Ghanaians produced food crops including beans, yams, groundnuts, millet water melon , to mention few, adding that the impact of global warming on food production was becoming glaring.
Mr Azortibah who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra said people in West Mamprusi constituency were zealous to farm and to shift from subsistence farming to mechanized agriculture, and that the supply of the tractors would go a long way to enhance agricultural development in the area..
The parliamentary aspirant said when elected he would work towards the building of clinics in areas far from Government clinics which had resulted in preventable deaths of the people particularly pregnant women.
He also said that he would encourage more parents to send their children to school so that they would grow to become useful citizens.
