Kumasi, May 18, GNA - A 42-year old man has appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly threatening to kill his ex-girl friend.

Arnold Opuni denied the offence and was granted bail in the sum of GH ¢10,000.00 with a surety.

He would re-appear on Thursday, July 19.
Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that, both the complainant, Diana Afriyie, and the accused, live at Pakyi Number Two, in the Amansie West District.

They used to be in a relationship but due to frequent misunderstanding, they broke-up, two years ago.

Diana later found a new lover, who proposed to marry her, and their wedding, set for May 28, 2011.

The prosecution said as the marriage preparations were being made, Opuni went to the Head Pastor of the lady's church to warn him not to bless the marriage.

The Pastor, baffled by the turn of events, decided to hold a joint meeting with the lady, the accused, the would-be-husband and their families to find a way out of the confusion.

Police Chief Inspector Fandoh said Opuni publicly threatened to kill Diana before the gathering.

He said the wedding ceremony had to be cancelled because of the persistent threats of the accused.

As if that was not enough, Opuni on November 20, last year, chased Diana to the Kumasi Zoo area, where she sells her wares and again vowed in the presence of a witness in the case to end her life.

A report was made to the Police leading to the arrest of Opuni.
