16.05.2012 Press Release

Counting the true cost of inciting "tribal hatred"

16.05.2012 LISTEN
By GDEu

We the people of GaDangme origin domiciled in Europe and belonging to the GaDangme organisations across Europe (GDEu) are deeply saddened, disturbed and profoundly disappointed by the recent repulsive speech made by Kennedy Agyepong, when he particularly targeted the people of GaDangme and Voltarians (Ewe) origin of Ghana.

Mr. Agyepong's public speech sought to incite direct "tribal hatred". This is the first speech by a law maker in recent times that is liable to exacerbate and damage ethnic cohesion. Such repulsive speech only helps to breed hatred instead of love, chaos instead of order and strife instead of peace.

We believe Mr. Agyepong's speech was inflammatory and liable to damage ethnic cohesion and we are determined to do everything we can to prevent ethnic tension and strife by calling on all law abiding citizens of Ghana and especially people of GaDangme and Volta Region (Ewe) origin to exercise restraint and to be resilient in the face of such repulsive and damaging speech.

In the interim, to restore peace and to let things cool down for the present rather than to heighten the crises, we are calling on Mr. Kennedy Agyepong:

1. To formally withdraw his repulsive statement aimed at damaging ethnic cohesion

2. To render unreserved apology to the people of GaDangme and Voltarians (Ewe) origin of Ghana

In fulfilling the above actions Mr. Kennedy Agyepong will prepare the ground for damage limitation and enhance proper reconciliation.

Long live the GDEu!
Long live Ghana!

GaDangme! Woji Gonti - GaDangme! Woji noo

Signed:
Nii Tetteh Okoso Mensah – President, GaDangme Europe (GDEu)
