Children should be encouraged to study the constitution

Diaso (C/R), May 16, GNA – The Headmaster of Diaso Senior High School, Mr Joseph Quayson-Forson, has said it was about time children were counseled and encouraged to learn the constitution of the country to use it as a tool to become good citizens in future.

He said it was only when they were abreast with the contents of the constitution that they would be able to defend it and not to abuse it.

Mr Quayson-Forson said this at the celebration of Citizenship Day at Diaso in the Central Region.

The day under the theme; “Stand Up for Ghana” was organised by the Diaso District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for school pupils in the area.

Mr Quayson-Forson, explaining citizenship, said a citizen is a person who upholds his or her integrity for the country with respect to culture, norms and ethics without prejudice.

He said a citizen should always help prevent crimes or not indulging in acts like smuggling, robbery, violence and to report breaches of the law to the police.

Mr Quayson-Forson said there was the need for Ghanaians, especially the children, to study the constitution.

Mr John Aryee Hammond, the Civic Education Officer of the District Directorate of the NCCE, said the day was set aside by the Commission to inculcate in children the principles and rules that govern the nation.

He advised the children to be law abiding and respect the symbols of the country, adding that they should concentrate on their education so that monies the government and their parents invest in them would not go waste.
