Chris Akumey wants removal of ex-refinery differential levy halted

Lawyer Chris Ackumey has filed a writ at the Supreme Court seeking to halt the removal of ex-refinery differential levy on fuel prices.

The writ, Joy Business has learnt, was filed some two weeks ago.

The court of Appeal in March directed the National Petroleum Authority to comply with the high court ruling to remove the levy because it's illegal.

However, Joy Business has gathered that the authority has also filed a writ at the Supreme Court to stop the appeals court action.

Lawyer for Chris Ackumey, James Agalga tells Joy Business they want a clear interpretation on the issue

The levy over the years has been used to subsidize prices of LPG, Kerosine and Premix Fuel to bring down their cost. Its removal could result in reduction of some petroleum products.

Government has however maintained it might be forced to increase fuel prices if the levy is removed.
