*At Tumu, Savelugu
*Ambushed At Walewale

There were, indeed, many high and remarkable points on the Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom-led Progressive People's Party (PPP) national campaign tour.

One unique trait of the tour was the burning desire of thousands of Ghanaians to stay deep into the night to welcome Dr Nduom and his entouragewhenever they were late in breezing into town.

A case in point is what happened at Tumu in the Upper West Region and Savelugu in the Northern region where scores of people stayed up late to catch a glimpse of the PPP presidential candidate.

Much more interesting is the fact that on his way to Savelugu, Dr. Nduom's was virtually ambushed at Walewale by an enthusiastic crowd of able-bodied young men who insisted that he stop and address them, and offer them his the hope message and the good tiding he has for Ghana if we vote him as president.

Dr Nduom and his entourage therefore had no other option but to oblige the vociferous and enthusiastic group at Walewale.

While attempting to get out of his car, Dr Nduom was swarmed by the youth, making it difficult for him to get out of his car. It eventually took the experience but nevertheless hectic tactics by the security detail to enable the PPP standard bearer come out of his vehicle.

When Dr Nduom finally mounted the bucket of the party's pickup to address the group, virtually none could hear him simply because of the cheers and noise by the enthusiastic crowd that continued to converge on the unplanned-rally grounds.

In between the cheers, the party's flag bearer was able to, nonetheless, relay what the PPP has for Ghanaians when they vote Dr. Nduom in as the head of the next national administration.

After satisfying the young men, the entourage drove on to Savelugu reaching town at around 8:00 P.M.

The PPP entourage was met at the outskirts of the town by a welcome party that had got wind of Dr. Nduom's arrival. Characteristic of the three northern regions, the welcome party consisted of many young people on motor bikes and bicycles.

The welcome party led Dr Nduom and his team through the principal streets of Savelugu, and they eventually arrived at the rally grounds around 9:30 P.M.

Anyone who thought the town folk were asleep at the time could not have been more mistaken; almost every household was surprisingly awake, waiting for the Progressive People's Party entourage.

The town conspicuously came alive, almost set ablaze with enthusiasm and excitement by Dr Nduom's arrival, and even children as young as 6 to 12 years old could be seen amongst the crowdyears above joining in the fray. Amazingly, even the children remember Dr Nduom from four years ago as they chanted “Edwumawura” in addition to “PPP.”

They crowd here even had their own slogan and response. When others called out, “PPP,” everyone else responded, “Power!”

After brief address at the rally grounds, Dr Nduom opened a party office for the Savelugu area.

A day earlier, due again to the bad nature of the road, a similar episode was recorded at Tumu, where the campaign team arrived around 8:00 P.M.

Here at Tumu, residents had converged at the main social centre, undeterred by the late arrival of the PPP entourage. Again, Dr Nduom and his team had a torrid time getting from their vehicles to the main grounds.

In Tumu, the popular catchphrase was “We are tired of the NPP and NDC!”

Whiles addressing the people, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom reiterated the need for them to consider a new party and entrust it with the responsibility of leading the nation after the 2012 elections.

When the team got to Sandema in the Upper East Region around 10:30 P.M., the chiefs and people were remarkably patiently waiting for them.

Dr Nduom told them he would have met them earlier but could not do that due to the obviously bad nature of the road which slowed down the entourage.

The chiefs corroborated Dr. Nduom's story about the bad nature of the roads and took the opportunity to challenge him to do something about the road when voted into national administration.
