CPP At Defining Moment - Sakara

By Chris Nunoo - Daily Graphic

An aspiring presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr Abu Sakara, has stated that the April 14, 2012 national congress of the CPP is the only defining moment for the party.

This, he explained, was because the pattern of voting of the delegates would determine the “survival or the death of the CPP”.

Addressing CPP delegates in Wa, Dr Sakara said “There is nothing anybody could do to celebrate Dr Kwame Nkrumah, founder of the CPP, than to work to bring the party back to power”.

He, therefore, urged members of the CPP to regard themselves as members of a successive generation who sacrificed and struggled to wrest power from the then imperialist regime.

“Prior to 1966, development in this country was holistic and planning was for the future. The CPP government at the time was a government for all but what we have experienced lately from the NPP and the NDC, is a government for me and my family” he said and called on the current administration to ensure equal opportunity for all Ghanaians.

Dr Sakara, who was in the region as part of a nationwide tour to seek the support of delegates who would be voting during the CPP national congress, described the CPP as a nationalist party with a national vision.

Sharing his thoughts on the insult and abusive language that had in recent time characterised the body politic of the country, the aspiring CPP presidential candidate said politics of abusive language and insults were not values that people must live with and appealed to Ghanaians not to allow a few people to destroy “Our common heritage”.

He said this year’s general elections was for the country to chart a new way forward in order to repair the fundamental issues bedevilling the country.

He, therefore, called on members of the CPP to work extra hard, especially at the polling station level to neutralize the polls, contending that “the NDC and the NPP has kept us in the wilderness for long”.

He added that it was only when members of the party exhibited much commitment that others would take the CPP serious and told the delegates to come to the congress with much resolve and determination.

An elder of the CPP, Mr Bob Saeed, commended delegates for being loyal and faithful to the CPP and said it was time members of the CPP family remained more committed to the ideals and the vision of the party.

He also appealed to members to work assiduously to bring the CPP back to power.
