NLA to Supreme Court over regulation of the gaming industry.

By myjoyonline

The National Lottery Authority, NLA has turned to the Supreme Court seeking a clear interpretation over Gaming Commission's mandate to license companies in running their promotions.

It comes after mobile operator MTN dragged NLA to court for attempting to hault its “Dream-Big Promotion”.JOYBUSINESS has learnt a motion was filed at the Supreme Court last month.

The NLA in recent past secured injunctions against some Telecos and companies from running such promotions which it argues are only disguised lotteries.

A Fast Track court recently threw out an injunction by NLA seeking to restrain mobile operator, Tigo from going on with its Tigo-House Promotion.

Analysts have argued the Supreme Court's ruling on the matter may clarify the mandate of the two of the institutions – that is the Gaming Commission and the National Lottery Authority.
