By GNA

Tarkwa, May5, GNA - The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality has organized a forum to sensitize pupils of the Tarkwa Presbyterian Primary and Junior High School on the need to be responsible citizens.

Mr Bright Biaden, a legal practitioner and resource person, who spoke on the “duties and responsibilities of a good citizen,” as part of activities marking this year's constitution week celebration, said as school children, they need to obey the laws and regulation governing the country.

He said if they don't adhere to these norms in their youthful stage, the law will not spare them when they flout it.

The resources person said as good citizens they should respect the rights of others and cultivate the habit of keeping their surroundings clean, adding that, this will save the government huge sums of money to controlling epidemics and for the sick.

Mr Baiden said as children, they can also contribute to developmental projects in their various communities by supporting the elderly during communal labour.

He advised the youth to refrain from copying from the western world and rather stick to the rich Ghanaian culture.

Mr Francis Donkor, the Municipal NCCE Director for Tarkwa Nsueam said the focus of this year's celebration is on school children because the NCCE believes the youth need to be educated constantly to enable them to be responsible adults.

He said as they have all observed the challenges Ghana's democracy is encountering, it is the NCCE' s aim to groom the children right from primary schools by inculcating in them their civic responsibilities.

The NCCE Director said his outfit would be organizing regular educational talks for the youth to encourage them to take up their national responsibilities seriously.
