Headmaster Bans 7 Students From Writing Exams

SEVEN STUDENTS of the Agona Secondary Technical School in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region have been banned from writing the ongoing West Africa Council Certificate Examination (WACCE).

The headmaster of the school, Park Aziz, banned the students from writing the exams that would help them enter a tertiary institution, for non-payment of school fees.

According to him, the students owed the school several hundreds of Ghana cedis and that several attempts to retrieve the debt had yielded no result.

He explained that as part of measures to ease the financial burden of parents and guardians, the school allowed parents and guardians to pay the fees of their wards on installment basis.

In spite of this arrangement, Mr. Aziz noted, some of the students still owed the school, a development which made effective running of the school a herculean task to perform.

He said the seven students, all males, were banned from writing the exams because investigations conducted by the school revealed that they were given the money to pay but squandered it.

The headmaster pointed out that those students were stubborn and were not serious with their studies, indicating that the action was taken to serve as deterrent to other recalcitrant students.

Mr Aziz emphasized that had the students been allowed to write the exams, it would have been difficult for the school to retrieve the debt the students owed the school.

He said because the students were given the money but squandered it, they refused to invite their parents to the school when the authorities asked them to do so.
