B/A Varsity ready by September … 200 students billed for admission

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), one of the new public universities, is ready to take off.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah, has hinted The Chronicle that the university would be making its first admissions in September 2012, with 200 students.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah also disclosed that the 200 students were expected to pursue programmes such as Bachelor of Science (Bsc.) in Forestry Resources Management, Wildlife and Range Management, and Renewable Energy Engineering.

She disclosed that these three programmes had been forwarded to the National Accreditation Board (NAB), and that as soon as they are certified, the university would announce admissions for academic work be commence in September, 2012.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah is billed to appear at the on-going Brong Ahafo Regional Policy Fair today to present a paper on the status of the UENR in detail, and unveil the said programmes, structures and personnel in place for the new university.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the administration block for the university, which comprises her office and prime offices for the Registrar, Finance Officer and Development Officer, were all ready.

The Chronicle's visit to the UENR campus at the former Sunyani School of Forestry revealed that the administration block and three staff bungalows are completed, with the contractors only polishing the glass windows of the blocks.

Inside the administration block, the conference room, VC's office and her secretariat, and other offices were completely furnished.

The consultant to the construction and renovation work on all structures for the university, Mr. Outatious Avenyo, disclosed that out of the eight major projects going on, six of them, including the Vice Chancellor's residence, Registrar and Pro-Vice Chancellor, had been completed and ready for occupation.

Explaining why there was no project going on at the site where the President broke the ground for the takeoff the university project, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, said when they were about to commence work on the land, the Civil Aviation Authority advised that the location was not suitable for a university.

The original place, according to the Regional Minister, was earmarked for the expansion of the Sunyani Airport, and for that matter airplanes would cause a lot of noise to the university community.

He disclosed that a new place had been acquired at Nsoatre near Sunyani, where the main campus of the university would be constructed.
