Tamale, May 2, GNA - The University for Development Studies (UDS) is to partner with the University of Winnipeg in Canada to develop a common curriculum that would help address the development challenges facing peoples of the two countries.
The development of a common curriculum would enable the two institutions to share ideas and experiences that would be to their mutual benefit, Dr Lloyd Axworthy, Vice Chancellor of Winnipeg University, said this when he delivered a public lecture at the UDS in Tamale on Tuesday.
The lecture was on the theme: “Education, the foundation for development”.
Dr Axworthy, a former Foreign Minister of Canada, said it was his hope that universities around the world developed a common curriculum that would enable them share ideas and experiences to confront the challenges of climate change, providing accommodation and how to harness new technologies to benefit humanity.
“We need to provide an education model which would be navigation for future development,” he said.
He said universities should always be prepared to search for knowledge and the development of technology and innovation that would improve upon the circumstances of our world for a better future.
“The most important mission we have in education is to open doors, give opportunities for people to develop their talents and realize their full potentials”, Dr Axworthy said.
Professor Haruna Yakubu, Vice-Chancellor of the UDS, said the lecture was part of a series of international lecturers instituted by the University to draw from the rich ideas and experiences of eminent academics and institutions around the world.
