Stockholm to become an electric car city by 2030

Ho, May 2, GNA - Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is to become an electric car city by 2030 and ahead of this the country is investing in increased production of biogas for vehicles to reduce carbon emissions considerably.

Mr Gunnar Soderholm, Director of Environmental Administration, City of Stockholm, told journalists at an international conference on sustainable city planning in Stockholm that the ambitious goal was in line with the country's energy policies and the desire to be fossil fuel-free by 2050.

Stockholm has very low emissions, four tones of greenhouse gases per resident and was named Europe's first Green Capital in 2010.

Mr Soderholm said the city had district heating production that is 80% renewable that that it was developing two new districts with environmental profiles and making major investments in increasing energy efficiency.

Stockholm has reduced carbon emissions by 25% per resident since 1990 and has very efficient public transport system.

It adopted green ecology with aesthetically appealing environment in the urban landscapes where lakes and waterways play very important roles in recreation and outdoor activities.
