Students should help promote peace

Koforidua, May 1, GNA-The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has advised students not to engage in acts that could heighten the political tension in the country.

He urged them to talk to members of their families, friends and close associates on the need for peaceful elections in the country.

Mr Terlabi was speaking at the Students Representative Council (SRC) week celebration of Koforidua Polytechnic which was organized under the theme “the role of students in ensuring peaceful elections in Ghana”, at Koforidua .

“As students, do not let politicians use you to foment troubles in your schools and communities since all forms of violence are at all times counter-productive”, he added .

He said there was the need for tolerance for each other's views since it was through tolerance that the nation would experience a successful and violent free elections come December 2012. .

Mr Mensah Livingstone, the Deputy Registrar (academic) of the Polytechnic, advised students on the need to promote peace before, during and after the December 2012 elections.

He advised students not to do the ”dirty job of politicians for them” adding that, they should not allow themselves to be recruited as macho-men and women to cause violence in the on-going biometric registration exercise and the December election
