The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ms. Sherry Ayittey, has revealed that the government will soon roll out the second phase of the Better Ghana ICT project that will seek to distribute a further 9,000 laptops to second cycle institutions with computer labs across the country.
She made these revelations at a programme organised by her ministry and rlg Communications to distribute 423 laptops to teachers and students in the Central Region. This distribution forms part of the first phase of the better Ghana ICT project in the region.
According to her, these presentations formed part of the Better Ghana agenda envisaged by His Excellency Professor John Evans Atta-Mills.
Ms Ayittey advised student beneficiaries not to use the laptops for engaging in activities that will not promote their studies.
Welcoming, the students and teachers to the function, the newly-appointed Deputy Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, praised the Environment, Science and Technology Ministry for initiating such a laudable programme.
In his estimation, any society that does not invest in education, and in particular, ICT, will soon not be regarded as major player in the world of knowledge explosion.
Amoako Johannicia Afia, a third year economic student at the University of Cape Coast, expressed her over the presentation of the laptops.
She later helped the Deputy Regional Minister to present some teachers and students with their free laptops.
