Bolgatanga, April 29, GNA – Madam Agnes Talata Chiravira, Country Director for Youth Alive Ghana, a youth biased non-governmental organisation at the weekend observed that an augmented youth with varied skill and improved talents is a recipe for mainstream national development.
She noted that the youth is the cradle of the country's prospects which should not be toyed with to derail the foundation of the country.
Madam Chiravira made the observation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga after she addressed a durbar, which witnessed the passing out 45 trainees who had undergone years of apprenticeship in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions
She said her NGO secured 89,237 pounds from donor groups such as COMIC Relief, Tools for Self Reliance and Barclays Bank Limited for the training, which offered 75 youth skills in masonry, carpentry, hairdressing, welding and spraying.
The graduates were provided with set of tools, quantity of roofing sheets, GH¢30 while the female trainees got additional five bags of cement to enable them set up their businesses.
Madam Chiravira said her outfit had adopted multiple strategies to encourage the beneficiaries to live and work in their communities.
She said the graduates were mandated to put up their shops before the tools were released to them and they are expected to train a number of people in their communities.
She said Youth Alive Ghana would intensify its monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure that the beneficiaries who have also been assigned to specific mentors were encouraged to seek assistance and advice to facilitate their trade.
Nana Dwemoh Benneh Consumer Banking Director of Barclays said the support was part of the financial entity's corporate responsibility under the Barclay Community Partnership Programme.
Mrs Lucy Awuni, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, said government is committed to place the youth at the core of its policy planning initiatives to restore hope in them.
